There are many ways that the children can get involved within the Parish.  Children are encouraged to participate in order to nurture and strengthen their Catholic faith as they grow older. Membership of the Guides Association and Scout Movement also allows opportunity to meet youngsters with different religious and cultural backgrounds.

Children’s Art Club

The Art Club meets on Tuesdays during term time from 4:30pm in the Bethany Room at Our Lady of Ransom Church. Children are invited to come and have fun and make something unique to take home. Old clothes or an old shirt should be worn for paint protection. A charge of £1.50 per child is made to cover costs.

Children’s Liturgy

The Children’s Liturgy is held weekly during the Sunday morning 10:00am Mass.  The children are invited by Father to congregate at the altar and then leave the main church for about 20 minutes to hear the Word of God in a way which has been specially prepared for young people. The three children’s liturgy groups are split by age with each group being led on a rota basis by one of the team.

Please contact Maria Newby, tel. no. 01268 655955, if you would like more information.

OLOR Pre-School

Our Lady of Ransom Pre-School is primarily a Roman Catholic group based in Pope John Paul II Hall, London Road, Rayleigh. Your child can start Pre-School at the age of 2 years and places are allocated from the waiting list on a first come, first served basis. Government funding does not start though until the start of the term after your child's 3rd birthday. Full details of the Admissions Policy can be found in our prospectus which can be obtained by contacting our Registrar by telephone or email. Sessions are run during term time only, every day except for Thursday. Full details of sessions times and prices can be found on the Pre-School website www.olorps.org.

The Pre-School is a charity and as such relies heavily on fundraising and donations. The Pre-School is also run by a committee and we are always welcome to receiving new members. If you are interested in helping as part of the committee or would like to be involved in fundraising, please contact the Pre-School manager.

Parent & Toddler Group

This is a group run by volunteers for accompanied children between the ages of 0-4 years with their parents/carers. We meet in term time only on Thursday morning between 9:30-11:30am at the Pope John Paul II Hall, London Road, where there is ample parking. A charge of £2 is made for the first child plus 50 pence for each additional child ( free under 6 months). Free refreshments are provided. We hope that the group:-

•  Gives the chance to share the pleasures and anxieties of childrearing with others doing the same job.

•  Gives a child the chance to make friendships and prepare for the time he/she starts playgroup or school.

•  Gives a child the time to learn through play with other children and alternative toys and equipment.

We are always in need of people to lend a helping hand, whether this is simply to assist with setting up and serving refreshments, or to help run the group. People who can help organise activities for the children (e.g. a music session) would be most welcome.
